Students vs. Staff Basketball Game (Students)

On Friday, June 8th, the students and staff of JPEC had a basketball game against each other in the Victor Cuiss Fieldhouse. The students who played in the first game were Andrew, Jon, Noah O., Matthew, Liz, Daniel, Cole, Emma, Janet, Andrea, Jordan Quann. In the second game Samantha, Andreanna, Zach, Corbin, Jahmon, Noah D., Lauryn, Jade, C.J., Malachite, Hassan, and Alex. The teachers that played in both games were Mrs. Ortell, Mr. Marowelli, Ms. Vanwormer, Ms. Shaw, Ms. Ramona, Ms. Shirk, Doc B., Ms. Hillman, Mrs. Sager, Mr. Llerena, Mrs. Elfe, and Mr. Malmquist.

Both sides were great, but let’s focus on the student side of the game. I asked a few students questions about the game and this is how they responded. I asked Hasan Ahmad if he wanted to the students to win and he said, “Yeah, I wanted the students to win. I wanted them to win because I was part of the team, and the teachers were getting too cocky.“ While the other student, Andrew Mason responded to the question ‘do you think the students can win’ with, “I believed the students could win because we were a part of the basketball team and Mr. L coached us.“.

The game played between the students and the staff was just for fun. The game was amazing! All the students were excited and going along with the game. Or, as Eileen Warfield put it, “The reactions of the students were great!”. Some people didn’t care and multiple people, when interviewed, responded with, “I didn’t really care about the game.”

Sadly, the students lost in both games and the teachers prevailed. Most of the students were actually interested in the game and they had lots of fun watching or playing in it. We’ve done multiple assemblies where the students and the staff faced off against each other, like in the students vs. staff volleyball game. This wasn’t the first time that we had fun like this, and especially not the last.
