The JPEC robotics team, better known as Jaxon Falcon Works, participated in the 2017 Rose Parade in Jackson, MI on June 4th. They drove their robot with pride down the parade route as people ooh-ed and ahh-ed at the machine the whole way. Many times during the parade Doc B, one of the robotics mentors, shouted at the crowd, “You like it? These kids built that!”.

Everyone was thrilled to see a robot parading down the street, and some even asked to drive. The community was very impressed and amazed at the robotics students work. The parade was a great event for the robotics team. “The best part about the parade was when the robot was popular among people.” Rohan Kudva, a 7th grade student at JPEC who participates in both middle school and high school robotics, said excitedly after the parade.

Towards the end of the parade the robot battery had died, and the team had to push it the rest of the way. The team was quite surprised that the robot lasted that long. After the parade, the team said motors were so hot, you could fry an egg on them and the formerly white robot wheels were now black with dirt. Overall this experience taught the team that the community supported the robotics program and JPEC will look back on this day with pride.
