John Lennon's Original 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' Album Cover is Up for

The cover for the Beatles album ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ was found in John Lennon’s former apartment in Surrey, England, and now being auctioned up. The cover was designed by artists Peter Blake and Jann Haworth. The album's design, based on a sketch by Paul McCartney, was believed to be a group effort from the band. Based on the new development, some say that John Lennon also had a few ideas to contribute to the composition as well. It has gone up to auction at Julien’s Live. Although many people may believe that it is “different,” it has gone up to auction at $10,000 and they expect it to reach up to even $40,000 through $60,000.

Julien’s Auctions notes that “it is unknown how this undated drawing figures into the history of the album cover and Lennon’s involvement.” That said, this drawing does look a lot like what the final album art ended up as. So perhaps, this was a final stage of the band deciding on the layout with each other, or maybe he was just quickly showing a confidante what his band’s next album would look like. Whatever the case, the illustration was found in a sketchbook by the owners of Lennon’s former home in Surrey, England, and it’s a pretty neat piece of newly discovered music history.
