Future Budget Cuts in Store for the Enviromental Protection Agency
In the White House’s proposed 2018 budget plan, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is set to have a thirty one percent reduction in their budget. In order to achieve that reduction around fifty of the EPA’s programs would have to be terminated.
It is known that Donald Trump has been skeptical about climate change, and currently all climate change programs are set to be eliminated along with research.
If the set amount of budget cuts come into effect for the environmental protection agency over 3,000 people will lose their jobs.
The budget cut will also force the EPA to begin stepping back on its measures for the protection of water and air quality.
The Trump administration also wanted to downsize the funds going towards the EPA enforcement as that is the sect that fines business. These reductions to the EPA is a starting point for Trump to begin negoti
ations with congress as he believes the regulations the organization has set are too strict.
However, climate change oriented programs are not the only ones in jeopardy; According to CNBC funding for regional pollution clean up programs would be cut by some 427 million dollars. The superfund which is a program designed to cleanup hazardous waste, would also have steep cuts the amount being 330 million dollars.
The Trump administration’s reasoning for these budget cuts is to give state governments the responsibility for such cleanups. President Trump believes the Environmental Protection Agency overreaches with matters concerning things such as businesses and strives to have a drastically smaller EPA.
