Your Chicken Nuggets May Have the Flu

Recently, a Tyson chicken supplier has faced the issue of their chickens being overwhelmed with the bird flu. According to CBS news, thousands of chickens have been obliterated at a Tennessee chicken farm, that happens to be one of the main suppliers for Tyson.

Tons of chickens were destroyed at the farm, and the virus will most likely not enter the food system. Tyson doesn’t believe that this outbreak will affect the manufacturing process, or what is sent out to the consumers. Even still, many Tyson buyers are paranoid about the food they are buying.

The disease found in the chickens is very deadly and contagious for the birds, but humans rarely catch the disease. Although, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible; so consuming the infected birds can be lethal. Luckily, Tyson tests all it’s poultry before sending them to the factory, to prevent epidemics that could potentially start up.

“The issue won’t be as bad as some may think. They’re a big corporation, so they won’t let issues like this effect what’s sent out to the consumers. Maybe it will affect like a quarter of their sales, but I don’t think it will be a big issue.” says Kacy Utterback, eighth grader at JPEC.
