Academy Award Nominations

On January 24th, the Academy Award Nominations were announced for the 89th Annual Academy Awards Ceremony, better known as the Oscars. Every year, our eyes are upon who will win these prestigious awards. Nothing could ever top Leonardo Dicaprio’s win last year. After being nominated for Best Actor three times, he finally won with his fourth nomination for Best Actor, not to mention all his other nominations in different categories. Who knows what will happen this year.

For Actor in a Leading Role, five actors were nominated. The nominees are Casey Affleck for Machester by the Sea, Andrew Garfield for his role in Hacksaw Ridge, Ryan Gosling in La La Land, Viggo Mortenson for Captain Fantastic, and Denzel Washington for his leading role in Fences. The nominations for Actor in a Supporting Role are Mahershala Ali in Moonlight, Jeff Bridges for Hell or High Water, Lucas Hedges for his role in Manchester by the Sea, Dev Patel for Lion, and Michael Shannon in Nocturnal Animals.

The nominations for Actress in a Leading Role are Isabelle Huppert for Elle, Ruth Negga for Loving, Natalie Portman for her role in Jackie, Emma Stone in La La Land, and Meryl Streep for her role in Florence Foster Jenkins. For Supporting Actresses, Viola Davis was nominated for her role in Fences, Naomie Harris for her role in Moonlight, Nicole Kidman for Lion, Octavia Spencers in Hidden Figures, and Michelle Williams in Machester by the Sea.

The award show for the Academy Awards will be Sunday, February 26th at 8:30 EST. Make sure to watch out for all these important awards, as well as dozens of others being awarded.
