Casual Friday is Chaning

For every Friday up to this point, students earned their day of leisure clothing by having all their assignments in and not getting a reflection. Recently though, the JPEC staff decided that the current system was not working, and there needed to be a shift in the fundamentals of Casual Friday. College Prep students were nervous at first hearing the announcement, but now that the change is enacted, most students agree with the system.

Rather than taking away Casual Friday for negative actions, now students are awarded points by the teachers, using the online program, Classdojo. The program allows teachers to grant points for good behavior, and take points away for negative. The students have to receive eight positive points in a week to earn Casual Friday.

This goal may sound difficult to reach, but teachers do a uniform check at the beginning of first hour each day, and students who are dressed appropriately receive points. That way, if students are dressed correctly every day, they will only have to earn four points in other ways.

All of the students’ classes are connected, so the points will carry over from class to class, so you don’t need eight points per class, just eight in total. “I feel like the new system will be more effective in giving people Casual Friday.” says Precious Seals, eighth grader at JPEC.

ay, students would find out if they earned it or not from their Focus Group teachers on Thursday afternoons. Now, they can just go online and look on their class dojo accounts whenever they want. Also, in this system, parents can check whether or not students have earned Casual, so parents can be more involved in their student’s education. This change is a nice breath of air for JPEC. Students and teachers are now better able to monitor casual Friday. Classdojo will be a great help to our school!
