Eight Grade Falcon Take The NAEP

NAEP sounds like another state-test that few schools will have to take. It is not only larger than

that, but it is a test that schools all across the country will participate in. Recently, the test arrived at JPEC and selected eighth graders to participate in the testing.

The students were assigned an assessment to take based on a certain core subject, consisting of: civics, geography, mathematics, reading, U.S. history, or writing on tablets. Each student only had to take one. The test took our eighth graders around 120 minutes, and they all tried their best.

Students were instructed not to freak out, because the testing did not affect their grades, and their scores will be anonymous. The test was really a way for the school to compare itself to others, and see how the staff is performing. The test will result in the “Nation’s Report Card.”

“I was glad we weren’t graded on it, because I didn’t know some of the questions, and if I was graded on it I’d be irritated because some of the topics covered I was never taught,“ says Breanna Beemer, an eighth grade student who participated in testing.

Aleana Jordan, another eighth grader who took the test, says, “I think it’s a great idea for there to be a Nation’s report card.” This way, the government can improve the education system by seeing what methods have worked, and what the system needs to improve. By taking this test, our student body helped create a better education system for our country. We’re very proud of our falcons!
