Doc. B is the Best Teacher in Jackson - Literally!

JPEC’s assembly on Tuesday, February 14, was disguised as a Valentine’s Celebration. But what most of the school didn’t know – including Doc B – was that Jackson Magazine declared JPEC’s teacher, Dr. Clinton Bartholomew, the teacher-of-the-year in Jackson, Michigan. He admits he had no clue about it before the assembly.

Doc B is the Early College Science Teacher, teaching General Biology to ninth graders, and Chemistry to tenth graders, but he does so much more than that. He runs both the College Prep and Early College Robotics Program, and does a plethora of other tasks at JPEC. When asked what motivates him to be so involved at JPEC, Doc B says, “You guys! The students are awesome!”

Students and parents nominated Doc B because of his unique style of teaching. A student claims they have never seen him sit down during class, “He’s here, he’s there, he’s everywhere, he’s Doc B.” Jackson Magazine recognized these qualities, and listened to the nominations. Doc B won the judges hearts.

The contest grades the teachers based on standard expectations, extraordinary actions, and innovative actions. Doc B excels in all these areas, so it’s not a huge surprise he won. Although when asked how it felt being teacher of the year, he states he is “surprised.” You can read more about the scoring system here.

Doc B was smiling from ear to ear when it was announced that he won the award. He gave a motivational acceptance speech, stating that students at JPEC are the best he’s ever taught before. In his free time, he likes playing with his daughter, gardening, and spelunking.
