Geoguessr Teaches JPEC Students While They Have Fun!

The College Preparatory Social Studies teacher, Mr. Schaeffer, has recently introduced the student body to a geography game that helps the students recognize different areas of the world. This game is called Geoguessr, and the link is geoguessr.com.

In this game, the player is placed into a random place on the earth, and they use google streetview to decipher where they are located using street signs, culture hints, and architecture. The student makes a guess of where they are, and the game gives you points based on how close your guess is.

Students at JPEC have enjoyed this game because they can beat each other’s high scores, and use different clues to solve the mystery of where they are. Teachers and Parents also can appreciate this game to test their knowledge. “I like how the game is based on finding clues, which provide where you are,” says Precious Seals, eighth grader at JPEC.

In each round you play of the game, you are introduced to five new places, which will raise your awareness of the world around you, disguised in a simple game.

Certain rounds are harder than others. If you are lucky, you will be transported into a big city with many road signs and context clues, but difficult rounds will place you in the middle of no where, with no signs. “Sometimes I like the game, and sometimes I don’t. The easier rounds are more fun, because I know I’ll get them right. But the harder rounds are more boring, but I try my best.” seventh grader, Rejah McBride comments.
