Punxsutawney Phil Predicts the Weather!

February second was the eventful Groundhog’s day. A large crowd gathered in Pennsylvania Thursday, and it was no surprise when the sun came out and Phil predicted six more weeks of winter, so don’t put your mittens away quite yet! Michigan and the Mid-West/North-East has had some icy weather, but the majority of our country has had doubts on his prediction this year, because temperatures are rising quite fast in a lot of areas. Time will show whether or not winter will live up to his predictions.

Punxsutawney Phil has only had correct predictions around 21% of the time, which isn’t very promising. It seems like nature will win over tradition. The tradition began in 1887, and many people genuinely believe that the groundhog will accurately portray the weather. However, the facts point to the Groundhog having random predictions, that aren’t magic, so times Phil is right is simply luck.

If you are excited for more winter you’re in luck, and if you want spring, don’t lose hope because statistics are looking in your direction. Happy Groundhog Day!
